Jamaican turmeric a native of Asia brought to the island by the Indians is a super plant. The versatility and wonderful benefit to mankind is not explored to the fullest, but studies have shown to great this root is. Turmeric is the main ingredient in the Jamaican curry which lends it color, aroma and health benefit to the cuisine.
One can conclude that Jamaican curry dishes have health benefits. It is believed that the Jamaican turmeric is a powerful medicine that’s been long used to treat a wide variety of conditions such as , jaundice, menstrual difficulties, bloody urine, hemorrhage, chest pain, flatulence and colic among other things.
Notwithstanding the medical benefits the Jamaican Turmeric has silently ingrained itself into the Jamaican cuisine in many ways. Its attractive color is quite pleasing to eyes and aromatic flavors make it quite likeable into the world of creative cooking.  Turmeric is one of those super plants that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. It is  repeatedly used to flavor and color butter and cheese, liquor, drinks and of course vegetables, meat and fish. The turmeric is used sometimes also in place of  the Mediterranean saffron spice and in dishes such as the Spanish dish  “paella” and also giving the yellow to the Jamaican patty.
