The Jamaican patty is certainly the most famous pastry on the island. Patty as it is referred to by Jamaicans can be made with almost any meat and vegetable baked inside that flaky shell. These vegetable stuffing could be any one or a combination of cabbage, calaloo, pak chow. Shrimp, lobster, chicken, fish, ackee, soy with or without cheese are just some of what have been explored successfully by bakers. However, the traditional and still the number one filling is ground beef.

The crust or shell is usually thin and most noted for its yellow tint. This color came by as a result of turmeric and egg yolk.
