Recent studies have revealed that meats which are prepared and cooked similarly to Jamaican jerk chicken may be much healthier than other grilled meats. This premise is reached by a study which points to eminent danger of developing cancer if meats that are grilled over high heat are consumed by humans. It is also believe that meats that are marinated with garlic, rosemary and sage for at least 30 minutes before grilling also decrease the risk.
The Jamaican jerk chicken is normally marinated for few hours before it is placed on the grill. The marinating sauce also includes garlic, rosemary and sage among other spices that do have medicinal attributes. When done correctly this marinated chicken is placed on green wood that are about 12 inches above the heat source. The chicken is then cooked slowly and could take up to 4 hours to be cooked thoroughly.
So now we know, not only that Jamaican jerk chicken is one of the tastiest in the world and it also decreases your chances of developing this deadly malady. The next time you are in Jamaica don’t forget to enjoy as much jerk chicken as you can. This small country has a wonderful and unique cuisine which has developed over the past five hundred years. Of course there are many other Jamaican style dishes that are famous throughout the world. Jamaican curry chicken, oxtail and brown stew fish are some of the many. The jerk chicken has become a signature dish but of course we are now using the jerk sauce in other creative ways, even on fish.
