The Green Grotto Caves in St. Ann, Jamaica continues to be a mystery. The attraction can be found along the beautiful north coast between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. The Green Grotto Caves is a natural attraction with large ‘labyrinthine of rocks’ in this extensive cavern with gracious stalactites and stalagmites formed over hundreds of years. The cave is over 1,520 meters long and 36 meters deep below the earth’s surface.
Perhaps one of the most amazing feature of the ‘Grotto Caves’ is its underground lake, where visitors enjoy boat ride while viewing years of cavern formation.
The Grotto caves were used by the native Indians as a hideout during 17th century when the English fought and captured Jamaica from the Spaniards. While visiting this beautiful natural attraction, visitors will be able to view artifacts and told the story of this period in Jamaica’s history by tour guides. North Coast Delight
Although the Green Grotto Caves are great to visit we recommend that unless you are staying really close by such as the Grand Bahia Principe of Jewels Runaway Bay this tour should combine with another excursion. The Dunns River Falls, Blue Hole, Rafting on the Martha Brae or a visit to the Shaw Park Gardens are great options.
